MAI in Slack
Ask your second brain and add notes and tasks to it without leaving Slack. Slackbot uses MAI the same way Claude and ChatGPT do: you sign in once, and it can only reach your own account.
What you need
- A Slack workspace where Slackbot’s AI is on. Today that means Slack Business+ or Enterprise.
- A MAI plan with AI access.
- If your company limits which apps people can add, an admin may have to allow custom MCP servers first.
Connect in three steps
- In Slack, open Slackbot and click Apps under the message box, then Add a custom MCP server.
- Paste this address and click Continue. Name the app MAI (Slack allows 25 characters) and leave Authentication on Dynamic Client Registration.
https://maicontext.com/mcp- Click Connect, sign in with the email you use for MAI and approve. Back in Slack, click Submit.
The first time Slackbot uses MAI it asks you to turn the app on, then asks before each kind of action. Choose Always allow for searching and reading so it stops asking.
Things to ask
- “Search my MAI notes: what did we decide about pricing?”
- “What’s on my MAI Actions list for today?”
- “List my MAI projects.”
- “Save a note to MAI in the Acme project: the client wants the launch moved to March.”
- “Add a task to MAI: send Sarah the proposal on Friday.”
What it can and can’t do
Slackbot can search your notes, read notes and meeting transcripts, list your projects and tasks, save new notes, and add, update or tick off tasks. There is no delete: nothing it does can remove a note.
Your notes stay yours. Slackbot fetches only what you ask it for, in your own conversation with it, and nothing is shared with the rest of your workspace. What it fetches is handled by Slack’s AI under your company’s agreement with Slack.
To disconnect, remove MAI from Slackbot’s Apps, or revoke it in the MAI Mac app under Settings → Claude Connectors, where it is listed as Slack.
The MAI app for Slack (every plan)
Add the MAI app to your Slack workspace and your finished meetings can go to a channel for the team to read. It works on every Slack plan, Free and Pro included, and it does not need Slackbot.
- Add MAI to Slack and allow the app.
- In Slack, open the MAI app’s Home tab and click Connect your MAI account. You sign in with Slack first, then with MAI.
- Click Turn on meeting summaries and pick a default channel. A project rule can send one project’s meetings to a channel of its own, or never post them.
What meeting summaries do
MAI posts nothing until you turn meeting summaries on. After that, each time a meeting finishes MAI sends you a private message with a preview, and nothing reaches a channel until you press Post, unless you turn on automatic posting. It posts only to the channels you pick.
A posted meeting carries a share link. Anyone who has that link can read the meeting, its transcript included, so post only where that is fine. The link does not expire on its own. It works until you press Delete post in the private message MAI sent you, or stop sharing the meeting in MAI. Deleting the message any other way in Slack leaves it open. If you shared the same meeting from MAI after posting it, Delete post ends that link too. See what the app stores.
Ask and save
Once your MAI account is connected on the app’s Home tab, you can ask your notes a question, or save something to them, without leaving Slack. Type /mai, write to the MAI app in its Messages tab, or mention @MAI in a channel the app has been added to. All three understand the same words, and only you see the answer.
| You write | What happens |
|---|---|
Nothing, or help | MAI shows you how this works. |
save and then your words | Your words are saved as a note in MAI, for example /mai save Call Boris on Friday. |
save on its own | MAI reminds you to write what to save. |
| Anything else | A question for Mai, which looks through your own notes and answers, for example /mai what did I decide about pricing?. In a conversation with the app you can follow up (“and last week?”). |
Save a message or a whole thread
Hover over any message, open its More actions menu (the three dots) and choose Save to MAI. If it isn’t listed, choose More message shortcuts first. A small form asks whether to save the whole thread or only that message, and lets you add a note for MAI. A whole thread is saved only where the MAI app has been added to the conversation; anywhere else MAI saves the message you chose and tells you so.
What you save becomes a note in your MAI account like any other. With MAI Premium it also gets a summary, tasks and a project; without it, the note is kept as it was written. Asking needs MAI Premium, saving does not. See what the app stores and reads.
On Slack Free or Pro?
Slackbot’s AI isn’t available on those plans, so the Slackbot route above won’t appear. The MAI app for Slack works on every plan. Asking and saving work there too.
